I was born in North Carolina
Up In the mountains - near the Tennessee line
Left my home to see the world
Fought a war - and I met a girl

She was lovely as could be
Still don't know what she ever saw in me
But when she smiled the world was mine
She said her name was Caroline

We bought a house and settled down
Planted our roots in Jenkinstown
We had a daughter - then had 3 sons
A perfect life - with my true love

A busy home and family
And all the years went flying by
There in the arms of Caroline

My precious friends, I'm sure you know
Life is too hard to face alone
When sorrow came to hard to bear
My treasured love was always there

For she was lovely as can be
Her perfect soul would comfort me

I drew my strength from Caroline

I never thought I’d see this day
Thought I'd be first to go away
We made a vow, we'd never part
But time is cruel - it breaks your heart

A graveside by an old oak tree
Lilac and matrimony vine
A resting place for Caroline

I go on now, because I must
and represent the two of us
Aa birthday parties and soccer games
For my granddaughter that shares her name

A perfect gift of endless joy to me
