This was started at the Kerrville Folk Fest last year as I was packing up to go and giving away all the stuff that I could not easily take back with me :)
I give to you these treasured things
Not a necklace or diamond ring
For that would be too much too soon
I fear that I would frighten you
Instead, I will award to thee
In hopes you will remember me
This evidence of my esteem
Things I can't take on the airplane
This cooler that I bought on whim
And all the beer that's stored within
These chocolates and this Listerine
Are far more precious than they seem
Why did I buy the largest size?
Perhaps it's meant to symbolize
so much that I must leave behind
and can't take on the airplane
Chorus
As you sip Gatorade tonight
Renewing your electrolytes
I hope you will recall the nights
here in each others arms
And pulling out your multi-tool
will whittle as you hum a tune
and think of us the way I'll do
Each day we are apart
Verse
And so i give these special gifts
to pointed or to large to lift
a reminder of your precious kiss
that I can't take on the airplane
do you know how hard it is
that I can't take you on the airplane?
Do you know how much I wish
I could take you on the airplane?
